BIOGRAPHY
Originally from New Glasgow, Amie graduated with honours from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. She then attended Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, to receive her Master’s Degree in Physiotherapy. She Graduated in 2008 and began working in Halifax at LifeMark Physiotherapy.
Since graduating Amie has completed a number of courses including Manual Therapy, First Aid/ First Responders (Sport Specific), Traditional Acupuncture, Functional Dry Needling (Levels 1 and 2) as well as Mulligan Concepts. She has also taken quite an interest in sports and working at a number of events with world class athletes (Soccer, Acrobatics, Aerials, Contortionists, Hockey, Basketball, Soccer, Sailing, Track and Field, Canoe/Kayak).
Amie has worked with Cirque du Soleil travelling through Canada, USA and Europe. Amie was the Physiotherapist for Team Canada’s Beach Volleyball team (FIVB) and has travelled with the Women’s Olympic/National Soccer team to Cyprus, as well as to Florida for training camps. Locally, Amie is currently in charge of medical for both Hockey Nova Scotia and Soccer Nova Scotia and their provincial / high performance programs. She is a preferred provider for the Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic’s High Performance Athletes as well has also travelled with Hockey Canada and Soccer Canada to National and International Events.
Because sports have been such a predominant part of her profession, Amie has received her Diploma in Sports Physiotherapy through the Sport Physiotherapy Canada Program (Written exams, clinical/field hours and practical exams). She has also been recognized as an international Sport Physical Therapist. There are only 7 Physiotherapists in the Maritime provinces that hold this certification.
Through experience Amie has learned to reach optimal performance, you must look beyond the symptoms and treat the whole person. Her treatment philosophy promotes healthy living, wellness and enhancing performance through education, exercises and manual therapy.
